The real education……..

A father was scolding his daughter after she failed her exams. She failed her boards and everybody in the family was searching for a chance to shout at her. The most disappointed was the father.

He asked her-  What are your plans for future?  Don\’t you have any responsibilities?
She kept looking at the exam paper in which she failed.
He continued scolding her. He further said-  How can you be so dumb, every one of your friend has got good marks, but you have no shame.
She didn\’t said anything.

The father was becoming frustrated. He raised his hand almost to hit her, but she stopped him and broke her silence.

She said-  Dear father, I want you to have a look at my paper and solve it. As you have passed your boards and also you are doing your business quite successfully, I just want to know how much will you score.

It was the history paper, the father was looking clueless, he didn\’t knew anything. Why would he remember about when some one is born, or when some war took place. He just raised his eyebrows and asked her- What is your point?

She said-  There is no point. It is just that I don\’t want to do things in which I see no point. I am interested in why someone did something, rather then when he did it. And as a matter of fact you also don\’t seem to remember these things. And if today I ask you to give your boards then you will fail too.

So is this only the education?

Are we determined to only get degrees?

Is this the knowledge that we consider to be so important?

The father remained silent.

She continued- I don\’t want to destroy my curiosity and turn my brain into some kind of storage device. There is a reason why minds are different then computers, we are given a mind to think. So I just want to think with my mind and keep its curiosity alive.

But I understand your concern, and you will have to wait till I pass my boards. I will surely do it. Because it is what we need to sustain in society, but please never worry about my abilities, because I am no less then any of my friends or classmates.

The father didn\’t said anything, he was embarrassed.

He thought if my little daughter can teach me this important lesson then she is indeed very knowledgeable.

His worries went away, a bright smile replaced all the stress on his face.

  1. I love this post. I agree with the daughter, education these days are full of whats, whens, and wheres to the point that it doesn’t make sense at all! Students nowadays just study for the sake of passing, not for learning. This is not true education. I like how you illustrated this lesson. Keep on writing! 🙂

  2. This is the real problem in the society, your marks decide your future and not your aptitude. It is shameful and scary at the same time. Hopefully peoples mindsets will change as well the education system will improve, eventually.
